The news coming out of Cornell University is difficult to read.
A 2024 incident involving allegations of sexual assault at a fraternity house has recently come back into the spotlight.
For parents, it raises an uncomfortable question:
If our kids found themselves in a situation where something didn’t feel right, would they know what to do?
Would they recognize when a boundary was being crossed? Would they know how to speak up for themselves — or for someone else? And would they have the confidence to step in when the people around them weren't?
These aren't easy conversations. And knowing what is right is sometimes much easier than finding the confidence to act on it.
That’s part of what young people explore in Pass It On, a free mentorship program for youth in Grades 9–12 offered by The Circle Education.
Through games, conversations and outdoor activities, Pass It On creates a space for young people to talk about friendships, consent, boundaries and above all respect.
The program is designed to help them build confidence, connection, empathy and a greater sense of self-knowledge and identity.
It's not about giving young people all the answers.
It's about helping them recognize their own boundaries, understand other people's perspectives, and develop the tools to speak up when something doesn't seem right. The social-emotional skills learned in Pass it On will help them navigate complex situations in relationships and friendships.
And the young people who have taken part seem to notice the difference. This is what former Pass it On participants have said about our program:
“The program has given me a stronger idea of what my boundaries are, it helped me in every aspect of my life.”
“Pass It On gave me a healthy outside perspective on my life.”
We talked about relationships. I shared how I overthink sometimes. I am getting better.
“We always get to laugh.”
“I want everyone to try this at least once.”
Pass It On starts October 6th, 2026
The program runs through May, every Tuesday from 4:10–6:00 pm, at Gulf Islands Secondary School.
Pass It On is free for youth in Grades 9–12.
