‘Our whole family benefitted from the skills our daughters learned through The Circle’

August 1, 2021

August is the month of our annual membership drive. You can support our organization and our mission to encourage young people to challenge assumptions and learn skills that foster healthy, equal relationships. Kim Dalton became a member in 2020, here is why she thinks you should too.

Kim Dalton started off as a member of The Circle and is now one of our current board members. Her now-adult daughters went through the ‘Respectful Relationship’ and ‘Pass it On’ programs and greatly benefited from them.

“More than ten years ago, my oldest daughter Kya was in the ‘Respectful Relationship’ program which I believe was part of the curriculum in those days. Bailey, our youngest, joined the Pass it On program, probably because she liked Kate (Nash), who still facilitates the Pass it on Program at the high school.”

Pass It On is an after-school, cross-peer group mentorship program with intermediate students (as buddies) and high school students (as mentors). Its goal is to foster capacity for healthy relationships and support life transitions.

“It was, and still is, a great program. Bailey got a lot out of it”, says Kim. “She learned a lot of new communication skills and brought those back home. My husband and I were quite young when we became parents, we didn’t have a lot of life experience and we were missing some communication skills. In the end, our whole family benefitted from the skills our daughters learned in those programs.”

Her daughters are now grown-up and have left home, but Kim recently re-connected with The Circle. “A friend of mine told me about The Circle membership and because I value their programs and share their values I decided to become a member,” says Kim who is an Opt-Certified Sexual Health Educator who specializes in working with neurodiverse youth and school-age children. She also runs a parent support group for families with non-binary children. Kim joined the board of directors to further contribute to The Circle’s mission.

“I would highly recommend all the programs The Circle has to offer and especially the Pass it On programs. My daughters made a lot of connections through the program and got peer support in their teenage years, which we all know can be difficult. It was very helpful. They learned important life skills and made friends for life.”
